Link: Mattmark to Monte More Pass
"Mattmark - Monte-Moro - Macugnaga (Italy)" "The section from Saas-Almagell to the Monte-Moro Pass connects the Saas Valley with the Walser settlement of Macugnaga in Italy. The trail appears to have been used since the 13th century. The trail over the pass is of great historical importance for international traffic and is rated as a historical path of national importance. You can climb up to the pass from the north on wide slabs of rock; however, the way down to Macugnaga is in a bad state and can be by-passed by taking the cable-car. The pass itself affords the most beautiful view of the east face of the Monte-Rosa, the highest wall of ice in the Alps. Do not forget your passport! "

Hiking date: 4 September 2004; Company: None.
Solitude: The summer crowds had retreated. Way up - I met around 10 people. Way down: saw less than twenty people.
